trinidad

before trinidad we went up to melbourne in florida to stay with ym aunty and uncle, it was sooo good to see them. I hadn't seen them in 7years and they were exactly the same, still fun and loving and happy.
Then we had a horrific journey up to newark and almost missed the flight to trinidad due to flights being cancelled and planes being delayed then having to fly into new york and getting a $100 taxi to newark. In the end we made our flight, but our suitcases didn't. But unlike celia i really didn't care because after 20years i was in trinidad and finally got to meet my brothers!

I'm here and i love it and today I've already eaten 3 mangoes! the food is amazing. I am getting on really well with my brothers, I've met cousins and uncles and partied and relaxed. i am rushing through updating because i realised I hadn't written on this in ages but that's the short of chicago - trinidad so far!!!

I'm sad i have under a month left but am already planning my next trips (miami and new york and australia for 4 months and thailand) after i've graduated...! we're also planning our last 3nights in new york and a lot of our goucher friends are coming to party iwth us so i'm excited!

I hope all is good back home.
see you all in under a month! xx

new orleans and miami

the most amazing music. the house of blues is possibly one of my favourite places. The fireworks on the 4th of July were amazing. New York, New Orleans and Miami are hands down my favourite places in America (that i've seen so far). We stayed in a really fun hostel that had a pool and met a lot of really cool people. Celia tried all the food( i couldn't bring myself to stop being veggie to try it but i bought a cook book so i'm going to make it all vegetarian for myself soon). The partied on bourbon street and Frenchman's street and heard amazing music every night. The french market was amazing and atmosphere everywhere was so great. Everywhere we walked there were people playing music or singing or dancing. It is my idea of heaven!

miami.... our hostel was known for the parties and the drinking. best and craziest time ever. we shared our room with 2 of the best girls ever and we got on so well. we're all still in contact and going back next year together...with more people too! our hostel was 2blocks from the beach so we spent our days there then nights pre drinking the going out. first night there was a stretched hummer to the club then 2free drinks on entry. second night $5 club entry to one of the best in the world then free vodka, the third there was a keg in the hostel then we all went to a really fun bar...it was so much fun! We met some of the people we'd met in new orleans there too. they arrived our last night so that was really cool to see them...i love miami!

chicago, la, san fran, orange county and l.a again

so we arrived in chicago with ridiculous hangovers and passed out. but not before we saw the chicago blackhawks win! which means we got to see the parade on friday which was insane, the weather was hot and humid and the streets were full of people in jerseys. We got to go to our first beach in ages so that was fun and eddie mills (one of josh's friends and well my firends too) was still in Chicago (having been studying there all year) so we met up and ate the biggest burgers ever! We also saw england vs america which was just embarrassing! There were 10 of us english folk and a bar full of Americans. in the first ten minutes we were laughing but afte rthe own goal we were hanging our heads in shame and just drank our 50cent beers! Our last night we went out with a friend of a friend. A dj on the same label as our friend cassey and so were in a fancy club drinking free fancy vodka, reminded me of london nights out! it was really fun and at 5am we all went and got the best food ever! pizza!

l.a we arrived at my friend dustin's apartment to find that he had a jacuzzi on the roof, gym in the basement and a home cinema too so we were living the life! I got some really sad news whilst we were there though and as much a is like L.A having to drive everywhere and there not being a park or anywhere i could go to clear my head and decide whether or not to come back for the funeral i spent 3hours a day minimum running in the gym. which helped but it wasn't the best.
We were in downtown by the staples centre so were really close when the lakers won and saw the craaazzzyyy jumping and celebrating people. We partied in hollywood and went to venice beach and longbeach and saw all the sights but L.A is definitely not one of my favourite places..

San Fran. 8hour coach ride there. 8hour ride back. i hate greyhound and have never had such a horrible hungover journey there..i didn't drink on the way back tohugh i feared for my liver and throwing up! We had the most amazing time. i took the best ever dance classes and got to see my friend hillary from Goucher. We rode over the Golden Gate Bridge and to sausalito which is beautiful and where i did the most ridiculous fall! i was going downhill and ridiculously quickly and for some reaosn a car was on my side of the road coming towards me (i was on the right side of the road) and so i freaked and the breaks didn't work quickly enough so i tohugh it was a good idea to slam them both on and put my feet down. it worked but i kind of half ran/ half flew and cut up my hand. but the bike was fine as was i (and i was wearing a helmet) i just had a stupid hand for a while! apart form that it was sooo much fun and we had so many fun nights out and saw all the sights and i love it there so much i'm definitely going back..

orange county. i had the most amazing time with sarah (friend from middlesex last year) we went to the beach, ate great food. went to loads of bars. got a lot of free jaegger bombs from some marines and heard really good music! definately loved it there too. oh and i took a boogie box class there that was really good and got contact details of a lady who has a contemporary company so that was pretty cool...

back to the gym in l.a and we met up with some people we'd met in san fran. it was fun to just relax and run again before new orleans and miami...

Boston is fun!

so we arrived at our hostel and finally washed clothes which was amazing then met a really nice Dutch girl who was staying in our room and we went out. What we didn't know is that they only take passports of you're foreign but we eventually got in to a bar restaurant with live music: dick's last resort. The theme is that the waiters are dicks so rude to you etc it was really funny!

So here we've been to harvard, gone on the freedom trail and seen where the revolution things happened I. Different places, saw cheers and went to Quincy market. We also hung out in cambridge and the beautiful park here when our friend from goucher came to visit. On the second day we net an Irish girl who's been studying for the year in dc and she's fun so she came around with us Andre net her dj friend and drank on his roof which has the most amazing view!

This is turning into sight seeing by day and an alcohol tour by night! The first night with kerri we went to a blues and jazz bar, a hidden away place with amazing music and the bartender gave us free drinks all night. Then last night we were going to go to a hostel organized place but ended up drinking in the aparmentd here with the powple that work here andorher guests... Was really fun and met some cool people. Now off to Chicago where there's a jazz and blues festival, so excited!

Oh and predictive text is american hence some of the spelling! Hope all is good :-$

Boston bound

We're on the bus to Boston having had a crazy11days in new York. It has to be said that my iPod touch I'd a god send, helping me navigate to different dance studios etc. I workshopped dances with a choreographer in Brooklyn, tool salsa class, a modern class and a ballet class. I also DOD the best work out class ever called boogie box. It burns 1,100 calories per hour and i's not yet in the I'm so I may get certified in it in California and bring it back!
We've seen all the sights and been tourists and I have fallen in love with new York and am definately moving after I graduate! We've hadsome crazy nights out too Thursday especially: our friend from Australia randomly bumped into guys he went to school with, one of whom is a promoter for clubs so we had a free night out at a high end new York club. Gooood times! Aside from the clubbing and tourist things we hung out in central park a lot which was lovely and AMA was here which was even better:-) I've just finalied all our hostels and buses and who we're staying with when so am looking forward to boston! When I get to a computer I will finally upload pictures. Hope everryone's well and you're enjoying the sun x x

phili is fun!

After graduation at Goucher last Friday and a celebratory meal with our graduating friends, Celia and I set off for Philadelphia. We weren't off to a great start because the bus was over two and a half hours late. But we met someone who's just moved back from London to Phili and was having a party the next night so that was cool.
We arrived at our hostel on free beer and open mic night. It was in the heart of the old town and surrounded by bars, clubs and restaurants. so we went out the first night and had loads of cocktails! we were only there for the weekend so went sight seeing in the day then the next night went out with people from the hostel, including an Australian guy who's been travelling for a while and gave us details of great places to stay in Miami and New Orleans. He's also in new york soon and then boston and at the same hostel as us (hi hostels are the fun ones here that are for young people and have free beer and entertainment nights on a lot. We went out to a bar then to the house party (that was being shut down by the police when we arrived so we dodged that bullet!)
It's been so weird here having bars and clubs shut at 2am!
Niagara falls was beautiful. The trip however was ridiculous. The tour guides barely spoke English and we were on that coach for over 20hours over the two day trip and it became very expensive so we were not impressed, but we stayed with our friend alex for a night in upstate new york which was so fun and needed! Home comforts after that annoying and time wasting trip were the best thing ever!

Now we're in New York and I met up with Ama yesterday, it was sooo goood to see her.
i love New York and will write more about it from Boston!
I hope all is well everyone

quick catch up

ok so spring break - George was here for 4 days which was fun. i got to be a tourist again (although i kind of am at the moment anyways) we saw the st particks day parade in the harbour in Baltimore city and dank beer in the street with all the people dressed head to toe in green, it was fun! then we went to DC and celia joined us in the day and we went on a tour bus thing which was a good and bad idea! good because we saw everything (we only had 6hours because george was leaving the day we went) but bad because we all wanted pictures so sat on the open top (it was a red double decker bus) and it was so coold and windy we froze but got good pictures!
the night george left celia and i decided it was a good time to check out fells point in the harbour in baltimore. It's a really cool quirky area with lots of little pubs and bars so that was fun!
As soon as george left the weather was amazing! and it still is!
then we headed to Richmond Virginia for the american college dance festival. it was so fun although i have never been surrounded by sooo many dancers and seen soo many performances in such a small space of time! there were a loads of master classes in a huge variety of dance styles which was fun and 3 concerts every day. there were loads of colleges from the east coast that attended so it was fun to dance with other people. The last night there was a maaasssiivee house party hosted by some of the students at the hosting college which was fun and we met loads of people from a college 20mins from us that came here last weekend for a party on campus!
anyways i'm off to a frat party tonight and then i'm off to new york tomorrow for the long weekend so i'll write properly sometime soon..
oh and i have shin splints which is rubbish but whatever!!
i heard the weather sucks in england, i hope it gets better!

Tuesday 2 March 2010

larry keigwin

amazing choreographer and dancer! he came here and choreographed a piece on some of the dancers and took us for technique class. he is amazing and funny and has done commercial dancing, broadway and choreographed on the martha graham company and ballet companiesn so he's so eclectic his work is amazing! so yeah that was fun and happened last week and i forgot to say! also sunday night we had a girlie night and drank wine... the bottle was 3 times as big as back home and the wine was actually nice, not just rubbishy cheap rubbish! so gooood times!
I stupidly half asleep moved one of my pillows from under my head on monday morning and somehow managed to crack my neck and trap a nerve! pretty well done i think..and so i've been unable to look right since. but my friend gave me a massage and it's eased off a bit. i get shooting pain in my right shoulder though, but now not as much and i danced a bit in musical theatre last night and mikey's modern today so it's kinda better..hopefully will be better by tomorrow. I've been in the sauna and putting hot flannels on it which is easing.... soo frustrating but oh well i can still dance and if i say so myself my robot has improved due to not being able to turn my head! I definately rock it now!!! hehee
happy tuesday guys =)

Saturday 27 February 2010

pictures!!

oh and soon i'll put pictures up of my campus, the inner harbour, the step performance and the ride along. and maybe pictures of my dancers in rehearsal (i had to take pictures for the website)

cruising through the ghetto and funk party!!

hey so on thursday night we went on the ride along with 2 drug detectives. one who's known as 'big head' on the streets because when we was just a patrol officer he was good at his job and arrested a lot of bad people etc and is like a street legend apparently so that was pretty cool! they picked us up from college at 7pm then took us to the station to sign forms and gave us bullet proof vests just for safety etc! they were actually pretty comfy! Oh and they showed us some drugs and it's mad how cheap heroine is in little capsules (so it looks like paracetamol) it's $10 on the streets but then apparently up in towson where i'm studying it's loads because people don't want to go to the dodgey streets.
but yeah they we just drove round the streets of baltimore with them. We saw some hand to hand drug deals and they stopped and searched some guys who'd just bought drugs it was really interesting. It's like a whole other world just half an hour away from college. The poverty and the drugs and we saw a lot of people who were definately really drugged up. They took us to a place where some scenes in the wire was filmed which was wicked because i loved the wire and it was cool to see! and then we all went and got food and came home. but it was sooo fun and my friend amirah (who's studying photography) got some really good pictures for her final project. Were going to go on a day one at some point too which should be cool..and i'm guessing they'll be more peole out on corners dealing then too (it was freezing thursday night and the wind was mad. all night i was kept awake by it!) I've been pretty brief in describing it but it really was so interesting to see everything that's going on. It was kinda like stuff that happens in music that normal you're comletely disconnected from but to see it all in real life and the boarded up houses it was quite surreal but not! not too sure how to explain but hopefully you get the jist!

Last night was the funk house party which was soo cool. It was at a friend's house just off campus and there was a funk band and dj set up in the basement which was really nice and carpetted. So there were loads of people down there dancing etc, the band were really good and had a kinda rage against the machine sound but they were funk which was really cool. SO yeah goood times were had! also my friend steph and i played people at beer pong and kicked butt! we were undefeated! so that was fun!
tonight it's my friends 21st party on campus so yay for more partying! i am dancing and going to the gym and doing my work too not just going on ride alongs and partying hehehe!!

hope all's good back home =)happy saturday guys

Wednesday 24 February 2010

dancing like a dancey thing!!!

so as well as that contemporary class i'm now taking an extra ballet class twice a week. i did it today and it was soooooo fun! and i actually got to dance it. the teahcer is soo funny and an ex bboyer which is hillarious so lets us be all dancey! i'm still finding their crazy pronunciation of things hillarious and confusing especialy when they tell us to 'toss it off' and come back to the front or talk about how much the critic 'love fanny'. Celia and I have immature laughing fits that only about 4 toher people get who have been to england on exchanges! but it's all fun and games... and no mum we don't obviously laugh in the teacher's face.. we have tact! but yeah it's funny!
tomorrow is the ride a long with the drug detectives.. sooo excited!! we're going at 7pm and then all going out for drinks so that should be fun! oo and on friday this guy from uni's having a funk party at his house about 5mins from the uni... the funk party just means he's got a funk band playing so should be fun! and less crazy than the last party we went to!
I've been looking into tickets to trinidad and they're soo cheap so excited about that!! oh and the snow's going which is goood! soon (ish) it'll be hot and we're going to road trip to ocean city and party..apparently it's not that preey but good for parties and everyone our age goes to party so more excitement there!! i'm killing time because i'm about to go out but cannot be bothered to start getting ready!!
i hope everything's good back home and work/play whatever is all going well and everyone is happy and healthy!! love you all
happy wednesday xxxxx

Sunday 21 February 2010

step performance

so last night was senior night which is means it's the last basketball matches of the season so the last matches the seniors will play at goucher so a bit of a big deal. we stepped at half time was fun and went well =) this whole week the team's been practising 10.30-midnight so it has been exhausting, especially as it's the first full week of class we've had. but it's over and it was fun. I'm taking extra classes now because i want to do more ballet and contemporary and have an amazing choreography teacher who teaches a contemporary class a level lower than my class at the moment but it's sooo fun and i love his style so i'm taking that and it's suuuuuccchh a work out so it's fun! i had a 2hour rehearsal today with my dancers and i'm sooo happy. they worked soo hard and my piece is looking good =) i think by spring break it'll be finished (3weeks) if not the week after because i'm keep the stucture simple and have most of the movement now it' just putting it together and getting my friends who are going to drum for it and working out what else i'm using for the music.. George composed a wicked piece which has crazy time signatures and there's 2minutes of it which is perrrfeecctt for a crazy section of my piece and so he's letting me use that because he's amazing soo i'm going to link it with other music..ok so this is dull and i'm getting very excited about ym piece so i'm going to stop rambling about it! but yeah i'm still having an amazing time and my exhausting week is over so am happy!!!

i hope everyone back in england and dani who's the otherside of the world are all good=) love you guys xxxxxxx

Tuesday 16 February 2010

first step practise!

first step practise was sooooo fun! but i'm sooo exhausted from doing nothing in all the snow days and partying and the gym that all yesterday I just wanted to sleep so by the time it was 9pm and time for african dance and drumming I was tired..and then had step practise 10.30pm - midnight i was awake! which iwas annoyign because i couldn't sleep last night..but oh well!! the team are all lovely and there's loads of fun things coming up including a pool party that we're hosting in april (hoping it's on the 25th!) so yeah all good and the step we learnt last night was soooo coool! and I have no bruises from it so success! I'm getting on well with my choreography too have soooo many ideas and my dancers are all amamzingly talented and really enthusiastic about it!
oh i'm stepping at the senior basketball night on saturday (the last matches of the season both womens and mens so it's a big deal) I will not be able to keep a straight face during the national anthem again...i'm hoping my friend's going to be singing it on the mic because then i'll take it more seriously..last time they just played a really really REALLY bad cd of it so hopefully it'll be good!

There's still a ridiculous amount of snow everywhere which is annoying when trying to get to class. I've slid on some ice twice in a row now yesterday morning on the way to jazz and this morning on the way to ballet. everyone in front of me did it too both time..stupid stupid snow.. but it was really funny!!
I hope everything's good back in england! happy tuesday xxx

Saturday 13 February 2010

goodtimes!!!

finally got off campus last night and went to see spank rock at a music venueand then partied at a house party with them and all my friends it was really cool...there are very funny very drunk pictures on facebook! oh and then so far today i got up and helped my friend get her car out of it's snowed in parking space... i fell on my bum sooo many times..still drunk (not goood behaviour..but good teenage behaviour!!! i'm finally over my cold/head cold fluey thing so hapy to be partying again) so yeah goood times!!! i hope all's good back home! happy valentines day people for tomorrow!! it's so funny how many adverts there are about it here. sooo funny!!!
i got on the step team! wooooo

Tuesday 9 February 2010

....and more snow!!

so it's snowing a lot again! it's supposed to be as much as the weekend which means a hell of a lot of snow. earlier i walked from one of the cafes to the dance studios, not realising there wasn't a proper path plowed out and it was thigh high and this was before it started snowing again sooo yeah! tomorrow's another snow day, my friend steph dug her car out from the snow today hoping that we'd be able to get into baltimore tomorrow because we're getting cabin fever but we're guessing by the morning it'll be just as covered which suuucckksss and we think the shuttle won't be running into baltimore either sooo we're gonna have a movie and gym day!

I tried out for the step team tonight. it was sooo fun! muuch much muuuch better than cheerleading! so hoefully I get in, I'll find out by friday latest because they're holding auditions tomorrow day time too so fingers crossed!

i hope everything's good back in england, i heard it snowed there a couple of days ago..i hope it's less covered in snow than here...i doubt they'd know how to handle it there (not that they really do here but ho hum!)

happy tuesday guys..well i guesss it's not wednesday for you but yeah happy days =)

Monday 8 February 2010

oh yeah!

we went to washington dc on thursday to see the alvin ailey dance company at the kenedcy centre...possibly the most amazing dancing i've ever seen. revelations almost made me cry! i cannot wait to go to new york after school's out and take open classes there. it's going to be amazing! oh and my friend's dad lives in ny so we're going to road trip up in a couple of weeks so i'll hopefully take classes there then, I'm so excited!!!

less of a ramble!!

so we've been snowed in this weekend and it was cancelled today. Good due to all the superbowl festivities last night! i actually understand the rules and had fun! anyways i just witnessed a Goucher basketball match. it was hillarious. they sang the national anthem at the start ( i wasn't expecting it for a stupid reason and found it sooo funny, was hard to supress the giggles!) but other than that it was still funny! the coaches were angry and shouting it was so funny. also they are NOT GOOD!! well they're alright the score was 57-61 but still compared to when I've seen Jerome play and bedford college it was just pitiful! oo and they have a mascot which is soooo funny and a really old dj that does the music every time out! I've never laughed so much!!

Saturday 6 February 2010

the two week catch up!!

hey so i've been sooo rubbish and keep forgettign to write on this.. soo the past 2 weeks have been sooo fun!soo my classes are amazing! on mondays, wednesdays and fridays i have ballet, jazz then musical theatre, contemporary and the teachers are amamzzing and everyone's lovely in my classes and i do african dance and drumming and another ballet class and contemporary and choreography and yeah i love it here!!!
so we had a bit of a crazy time last saturday when it snowed a ridiculous amount (or so we thought..it was nothing compared to last night and today) and so we were in towson (the place goucher college is in) and not properly dressed for the snow as in no warm socks or gloves (because we got a lift to the mall and were just planning on staying there and i'm an idiot..but i did have my flowery wellies on!) celia and i decided to go to downtown baltimore to meeet u=our friend amirah (and i reallyyy wanted to go to urban outfitters to get things from the sale and the only shop is in the inner harbour) so we went....and it was all funa nd games and really pretty there and soo tourist but cool! oh and we asked a guy for directions and he thought my accent was fake so that was funny! but anyways so on the way back we get a normal bus to the stop where we know we can get the free shuttle because we didn't know where else to get the free shuttle from...but then on the bus on the way the driver says he's not going to the shuttle stop due to the snow so we get off.... well he tells us too so we assume it's safe to..
it's not!

but luckily we're in the ghetto in baltimore but opposite the police station! no taxis would come to get us, the police tried to get us a taxi but no such luck too..sooo we got a lift home with 4 drug detectives in a blacked out suv! which was pretty cool they told us how dodgey the area is and that we shouldn't've been told to get off the bus.. but ho hum all is good and we were safe and next week we're going on a ride a long with them around where the wire was filmed and we're gonna party with them at a club in towson (yes my id works yay!)

but yeah so that was scary...but oh well we're ok and safe and yeah on wednesday we held auditions for our choreographies so I auditioned dancers for my piece which was really cool and i've got some amazing dancers so i'm excited and after african dance the other day a senior was saying rhythms from indian dancing and i'm kinda incorporating indian dancing into my piece and so he's going to be like on stage drumming and saying rhythms in my piece so i'm excited!! first rehearsal tomorrow!

everyone here is so lovely and fun and today there's at least 2 foot of snow outside it's mad i've never seen so much now in my life but it's not too cold so yeah...

i'm very hyper because i've just had a frozen yogurt with mango soo yeah.. i need to stop writing we're having a party here tonight so need to go sort things out!! i'll write less and more interesting stuff soon!

happy sunday guys =)

Saturday 23 January 2010

good morning BALTIMOORREE!!!

hey so I've arrived!!! i got in last night at about 5pm and the exchange officer lady (who's lovely) picked me and Celia up and took us to target to buy duvets etc and food and of course i bought mango juice for $2 and was sooo excited (still am..i've had loads this morning!!) oh before i ramble about the flight and my room and roommate etc here's my address here to send things to if anyone wants to..i know clio and george asked for it so yeah..
Ianthe Mellors
Goucher college Post Office
1021 Dulaney Valley Road
Baltimore
Maryland
21204
USA

anyways so secuirty was sooo quick and everything went so well with the flights etc (although it was a bad idea wearing my new boots that i love because my feet were swollen from the long flight despite flight socks so i had an interesting walking style around JFK airort!) but oh well i love my boots!

The halls are sooo nice as are the showerrs and toilets. and the common room is really cool on my floor too =) my roommate is lovely. after we'd been shopping yesterday and sorted out our id cards etc i unpacked and spoke to her and kinda danced around in a lack of sleep sort of way to her really wicked music =) then Celia, her and i hung out in our room...(celia's roommate arrives tomorrow along with everyone else at Goucher) and then i finally went to sleep at 11pm here when was 23hours of being awake...

but yeah it's amazing here and the lovely exchange officer lady told us it's soo cheap to go to day trips/weekend trips to new york/phili/boston and DC soo we're going to do that and i'm excited!! also there's no fraternities or sororities on campus but the shuttle to central Baltimore goes to all the other colleges and my roommate is friends with people from other colleges so we're going to go to loads of parties at the other colleges and experience the american way.. beer pong! and keg stands!!!

They didn't put any of the exchange students on to the stystem properly this year somehow so on monday celia and i are gonig to the head of dance so choose our courses and choose the classes that we want to do and not be assessed in which is wicked =) even if they're full we can go to them so yay! also there's an amazing african dance class run by a famous drummer from Ghana so i'm excited to do that..maybe nto get assessed in it but just take it for fun! in case you couldn't tell i'm ridiculously excited and hyper already...hopefully tomorrow i'll be un-jet lagged and normal again!

anywayss i need to go and shower and go to the mall (which is a 5min walk from my uni hell yeahh!!)to sort out an american phone and buy a sensible air of boots!
I hope everything's good in England..see you all in september =) happy saturdaayyy =)

oh and my english phone doesn't work so please don't text it...i'm suspending the contract so don't delete the number when i get back i'll be using it again =)
